The remains of the Filipino who was executed last October 5, Saturday, after being handed down with the sentence of death for killing a Saudi national, cannot be brought home.
In a report by GMA News, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won’t allow executed foreign prisoners to be brought to their home countries.
According to Rommel Romato, Charges d’ Affiares of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the same thing happened before with all other foreign prisoners who were executed.
“Kahit gustuhin nating iuwi, yung mga nakaraang execution ganun din po yung naging procedure nila dito. They do not allow the remains of those executed to be return the sending countries,” Riyadh Charges d’ Affaires Rommel Romato said.
It can be recalled that the execution of the unnamed Filipino pushed through last October 5, Saturday.
According to GMA News, he was handed down a death penalty sentence for killing a Saudi national.
The Filipino allegedly he beat the Saudi national with a hammer on his head after they had squabble over a business.
In GMA News’ report, Charge d’ Affaires Romato said they tried settling with the family of the Saudi national by offering blood money, but it was refused.
The Philippine official also said that the Saudi government helped by staying the execution for some time in order for the Philippine government to have enough leeway to ask forgiveness from the Saudi national’s family but like the blood money, they also did not accept the apology.
The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh revealed there are nine other Filipinos who are in the death row right now.
One of the nine also killed a Saudi national and at the moment, the government is doing everything in order that his life will be spared and avoid a repeat of what happened last October 5.
