Some Filipinos get their happy endings once they marry a foreign national. Many of them cultivate strong, happy relationships and even families.
In some cases, however, what started out as something romantic ends up as tragedies — this happens when one party enters the relationship not for love, but for selfish gains. Take, for instance, the struggle of Kristoff, a German national, after his Filipina ‘gold digger’ wife abandoned him.

Netizen Anja Wiberg first shared Kristoff’s story in a Facebook page called ‘Cebu Citizen Report,’ and it has gone viral since then for all the wrong and frustrating reasons.

According to Wiberg, the 49-year-old German is stuck in the Philippines with no money, forcing him to take shelter at a small chapel in a village in Mandaue City. He lived with his Filipina wife in the same city for 8 years before the latter abandoned him when he ran out of money.

The accompanying photos in Wiberg’s post angered netizens, who were quick to condemn Kristoff’s Pinay wife as a gold digger.

In one of the photos, Kristoff is seen shirtless while carrying a sack and a piece of worn-out box. According to Wiberg, the sack contained stuff Kristoff scavenged from trash bins around the village. He aims to find something to sell from his loot — anything that could help him survive and live another day.
The story frustrated many netizens, who claimed Kristoff’s ‘gold digger’ wife marred the reputation of the whole nation. Many netizens suggested ways to help the guy out so he could return to his home country, but it doesn’t seem likely that anything will come out of it. After all, Wiberg tried to ask the guy how he could be helped, which only prompted him to get skittish and stop talking to her.
