In time for President Rodrigo Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) tomorrow where he is expected to report all the achievements of his administration for the past two years, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s interview about the proper dissemination of good news once again went viral on social media.
In the said interview, Zubiri called out the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) particularly Secretary Martin Andanar to be more active in spreading the accomplishments of the Duterte administration.
He said that negative information including crime, corruption, and anomalies are always in the news leading people to be frustrated and neglect the many achievements of the Duterte administration.
Zubiri cited an example when he visited Mindanao and learned that most of the people there are not aware of the recently-passed Republic Act 10932 Anti-Hospital Deposit Law which together with the free medicines in government-owned clinic and hospitals.
“Umuwi ako sa Mindanao, may kinakausap akong mga kababayan doon lalo na yung mga maralita, hindi po nila alam na automatic na pala na hindi na nila kailangan magbayad sa mga provincial at district hospitals and regional hospitals,” Zubiri said.
He added that the Mindanaoans are also not aware of the free-tuition fee law for state universities and colleges signed by President Duterte.
“Ang daming nasasayang na good news,” he added.
Zubiri said that the PCOO should be more active in countering the mainstream media in spreading negative and depressing news leading people to assume that only bad things are happening under the Duterte administration.
“We appeal to the PCOO and Secretary Andanar to promote the good news. Kasi parati nalang bad news nakikita ng ating kababayan, syempre nafufrustrate sila.” Zubiri said.
